Come make bilingual, artisanal books of poetry by Latin American authors with members of the Cardboard House Press Cartonera Collective! We’ll use recycled cardboard to make copies of the two most recent titles of the Cartonera Collective series. All participants will leave with their own copy of the book. No experience necessary!

First session: 1-2:30pm
Second session: 3:30-5pm

In the first session, we’ll make And Suddenly I Was Just Dancing, a collection of poems written by Tilsa Otta (Lima, 1982) and translated by Honora Spicer. In this book of gender-defiant, carnal movement, the rhythm of perreo carries us into an anticolonial space of sensual and sexual liberation which pushes against binaries and towards multiplicity.

In the second session, we’ll make copies of Poetechnics, a book of poems written by Yaxkin Melchy (Mexico City, 1985) and translated by Ryan Greene. Dancing from the depths of the ocean to the furthest reaches of outer space, this wonderstruck collection of sci-tech poems transforms and transcends the traditional categorization(s) of poetry and science.

En estos poemas de movimiento carnal que desafía los géneros, el ritmo del perreo nos transporta a un espacio anticolonial de liberación sensual y sexual que empuja contra los binarios y hacia la multiplicidad.

En la segunda sesión, haremos Poetécnicas, escrito por Yaxkin Melchy (Ciudad de México, 1985) y traducido por Ryan Greene. Danzando desde las profundidades del océano hasta los más lejanos rincones del espacio exterior, esta colección de poemas “sci-tech” transforma y trasciende la(s) categorización(es) tradicional(es) de la poesía y la ciencia.
