ICA x Days Summer Cool Down Party

Augusto 04, 2019
2 PM - 6 PM
Special Projects

As the summer heats up, come cool down with us at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles with this new, daytime collaborative party from Days. Featuring DJ sets by def.sound, Surfboard C, Gemma Castro, & DJ Crudo (dublab) we invite people to come together to express joy with people of all orientations, genders, and bodies.

We also celebrate the closing day of ICA LA’s exhibitions: Patty Chang: The Wandering Lake, 2009-2017 and Lucas Blalock: An Enormous Oar. It is the last day to catch these shows!

Free entry, happy hour drinks, Oatly ice cream truck, Bloom Foods tamales, Ping Pong, and an indoor/outdoor setting make for an irresistible afternoon of fun!

The Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA) is an epicenter of artistic experimentation and incubator of new ideas.

Surfboard C (Cornell Sanaa) is a Songwriter and Graphic Designer based in Los Angeles. Musically inspired by vibrant artists like Pharrell, Beyoncé, and Missy Elliot, he’s managed to carve out his own sonic niche. Beneath the shiny veneer, Surfboard C’s songs are layered with themes of mental health, heartbreak, spirituality, and the politics of living in today’s world. His merchandise comments on racial access to water and cultural appropriation.

Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, def.sound found his signal as a published poet, MC, and DJ. Choosing to spell his name completely lowercase in homage to one of the most brilliant black minds of our time, bell hooks, def.sound is the vegan option on Hip Hop’s current menu. He recently debuted a new line of clothing No.Body.is.Illegal at ICA Days.

Gemma Castro is a singer/songwriter and DJ based in LA. She performs and writes soul music and sound scapes. She blends elements of rock, soul, and electronic music performing solo and with a band. She released her single Nada Existe and is currently on tour headed to Tijuana. Her performances are ones to be remembered and her DJ sets express her deep love for soul and dance music and for making listeners move.

crudo is a “Los Angeles-based” disc-jockey & designer. Although mediums differ, mood & texture is the essential component to any Work seen and/or heard. crudo is currently the in-house pixel pusher at dublab & NAVEL, with select mixes archived via KCHUNG. If you need anything, just ask.
