Join ICA LA Collective Members for a morning Art Hop featuring artist and curator-led tours of Mother/Land and Lizette Hernández: LAND DREAMS.

Mother/Land, on view at Murmurs, is a group exhibition featuring nine intergenerational female artists: Jackie Amézquita, Ragini Bhow, Nicki Green, Katie Grinnan, Maddy Inez, Aryana Minai, Erin Jane Nelson, Pauline Shaw, and Ayla Tavares. The work in the exhibition engages with materials from the natural world, exploring the deep and intricate relationship between humanity and the earth. Working across media, these artists reflect on our place in the universe, questions of ecology, and the need for reconnection with nature. The walkthrough will be led by curator Morgan Elder as well as featured artists Aryana Minai, Katie Grinnan, and Jackie Amézquita.

Presented by Los Angeles Nomadic Division, LAND DREAMS, the first major public art project by Lizette Hernández, includes seven, large-scale ceramic works exhibited within the landscape of the Exposition Park Rose Garden. The sculptures combine the texture and form of naturally occurring rock formations with allusions to religious nichos—vernacular communal altars. The sculptures also incorporate small ceramic pieces made by community members during workshops hosted by Hernández in her nearby studio, illustrating a shared imagining of possible futures and collective healing. The tour will be led by Hernández, who will share insights about the project and her artistic practice.

Lizette Hernández (b. 1992, Los Angeles, California) is a ceramic artist whose work investigates expressions of inheritance, regeneration, and devotional aesthetics. Working in collaboration with clay and led by the land, Hernández questions the concept of “the sacred,” and explores deep ecology by highlighting the intersections of floral anatomies, religious iconography, and ritual practices of remembrance. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2019.
