For ICA LA, DeVille has undertaken the role of archaeologist, collecting and repurposing found materials across #LA to create ‘No Space Hidden (Shelter), 2017 - meticulous and chaotic, the #installation complicates movement and explores themes of displacement, migration, marginalisation and cultural invisibility with emphasis on women, people of color, and the economically disenfranchised. Papel Picado, usually in paper, is reworked by @dosaflyingfish into hand-cut #textile and attached to sheets of cheesecloth individually - the materials span from #Mexico, #India and #LosAngeles. Artist and designer Christina Kim of @dosaflyingfish is one of our neighbours in #dtla - her dosa studio will present an immersive environment for @theicala - ‘Christina Kim Recut: Martín Ramírez + dosa mercantile’ is inspired by Mexican-born artist #MartinRamirez, the subject of our main gallery exhibition.
