Agency of Assets x El Clasificado

Annex
Exhibitions

El Clasificado is a newsstand-turned-gallery created by Pamela Ramos in 2018. The art space hosts various artists ranging in medium, location, and duration. Projects explore notions of ownership, public space, institutional critique, community, and other relational topics. The original publication, El Clasificado, is a resource newspaper with classified ads that serve Spanish-speaking communities throughout the United States. The newsstand was initially found outside El Changarro Market in Los Angeles.

Agency of Assets is a seven-month fellowship program for area teens to explore leadership in the creative sector through sustained mentorship, hands-on experiences, and employment opportunities in the arts. Fellows worked full-time summer positions at Hauser & Wirth, Self Help Graphics, Now Art LA, LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, Casa Fina Restaurant/CASA 0101, Vincent Price Art Museum, The Mistake Room, and Ball-Nogues Studio.

Agency of Assets x El Clasificado is the latest exhibition created by Ramos’s newsstand project. Agency of Assets Fellows created personal zines and presented them through performative engagements with El Clasificado at their respective worksites. On view is the documentation of these performances. Their zines and copies of Behind the Zines—a zine produced by the artist for this exhibition—are available for visitors to take.
