Ooga Boogie, cha cha cha!

Bookshelf Residency
Annex
In the Annex Gallery, Ooga Booga presents the work of Maggie Lee—an artist whose work includes zine-making, collage, video, sound and installation.

Lee enjoys collecting and working with found material and will be showcasing archives and ephemera from and relating to Ooga Booga and 356 Mission. Ooga Boogie, cha cha cha! includes a new video 356 Slideshow, alongside artworks, archival items, and a vitrine of artist books, zines, and media created and collected by Maggie over the years. Her exhibition will include a public closing program in collaboration with longtime friend and collaborator Angela Dimayuga.

Maggie Lee grew up in suburban New Jersey and spent most of her childhood drawing on menus at her family’s Chinese restaurant. She learned English through Karaoke. Maggie was always drawn to the DIY scene, zines, and magazine culture. It was her way of learning about the world around her and just cool in general. She now lives and works in NYC. This year, she had a solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Zurich in Switzerland and was in a group show at the Whitney Museum and Brooklyn Museum. Currently, Lee is hiding away in her studio, working on the next film, a psychological thriller. Lee is represented by Jenny’s in New York City and Édouard Montassut, Paris.
