The culmination of ICA LA’s youth opportunities program over the last seven months is on display in the museum in our Agency of Assets pop-up presentation. In partnership with Legacy LA and Pete Galindo, #AgencyofAssets works with local arts institutions, creative businesses, artists, community organizations, and the City of Los Angeles to provide immersive #learning and job experience for East #LosAngeles high school students. A pilot was launched last winter that recruited eleven students from Ramona Gardens and Boyle Heights, for internships in creative fields to best meet the students’ interests. The initiative is designed to catalyse leadership roles within the arts and #creative economy through sustained mentorship, hands-on experience, and paid employment opportunities. Through a 3-part program of Exploration, Employment + Engagement, the students embarked on their paid internships this summer - the first formal job experience for all eleven students. After a series of workshops, excursions and one-on-one consultations that provided the tools necessary to forge careers in a shifting job landscape, the students were placed with the following local organisations: @civiccenterstudios, @356_s_mission_rd, @hauserwirth, @theboxla, @shg1970, @ball_nogues_studio, @vpam_arts, @musiccenterla, Casa 0101 and Nephew LA | #exploration #employment #engagement #teens #learning #losangeles #dtla #icala
