Renowned Swiss curator and art historian Harald Szeemann (1933-2005) redefined the role of an #art #curator, supporting emerging artists and contemporary movements in the 20th-century. After organizing the landmark exhibition ‘Live in Your Head: When Attitudes Become Form’ (1969) @kunsthallebern, where he was director, and documenta 5 (1972) in Kassel, Germany, he challenged the institution as an art viewing arena and staged the installation, ‘Grandfather: A Pioneer Like Us’ (1974) in his own apartment. The #installation was made up of a collection of various objects and inventions made or owned by his grandfather, Étienne Szeemann (pictured) - a Hungarian immigrant to Switzerland via London, who was a successful hairdresser. Szeemanzn’s apartment is now recreated at ICA LA in conjunction with @gettymuseum for visitors to explore the unique dynamic between a Father and a Son as well as their obsessive natures of collecting and archiving, respectively | #haraldszeemann #grandfatherapioneerlikeus #icala
