Artists York Chang, Tatiana Vahan, and 12 youth fellows of ICA LA’s Agency of Assets program worked together to examine society’s relationship with data gathering, data usage, image literacy, and the power and complexities of photographic images in the contemporary moment.

The installation’s inquiry-based photo collages were produced through collaborative dialogue between the artists and fellows, introducing research-based artistic practices that explore the ethics and effects of data/media relationships.

On the bookshelves, Chang and Vahan offer resource materials to engage visitors in the project’s themes of art, data, images, and labor.

Agency of Assets 2023 Youth Fellows: Bianca Cano, Samantha Cielo-Valencia, Alizah Delgado, Penelope Eull, Lesly Hernandez, David Higuera, Bianca Huerta, Karla Ramirez, Melanie Rios, Jocelyn Rodriguez, Elizabeth Rubio, and Sofia Peña.

Agency of Assets is a youth fellowship program designed to propel local youth into leadership roles in the arts through summer employment opportunities, sustained mentorship, field trips, and hands-on experiences. Organized by ICA LA Learning & Engagement in partnership with local arts & culture organizations and businesses.
