The River / El Río by Zoe Leonard / Dolores Dorantes

This book collects unpublished photographs that the American artist Zoe Leonard took along the Rio Grande (or Río Bravo) in 2017. It also inculdes texts comissioned by the Mexican poet and activist, Dolores Dorantes, who has been living in exile in the United States for years. It is an immersion, through its physical barrier (the waters of Río Bravo), into the very heart of the border between Mexico and the US.A number of figures appearing in the water recall something else: skin, scars, wrinkles, genitals… The writing of an unknown language; a hybrid of image and text that attempts a conversation between the ever-changing continuous flow of water and the terrible complexities that surround it.
